In our clinic we utilize a medication called semaglutide along with encouragement of lifestyle modifications to assist you in your weight loss journey. We also review your medical history with you and monitor recent lab work to ensure you are safe and healthy while taking this medication. 

Semaglutide is a medication originally developed for diabetes mellitus type 2, but was found to show promising results in patients' weight loss journey in clinical trials when accompanied by lifestyle modifications. 

1. Acts as a GLP-1 receptor agonist to mimic the effects of GLP-1 in the body. This glucagon-like peptide-1 is a hormone that plays a role in regulating blood sugar levels. 
2. By activating the GLP-1 receptors, semaglutide helps to aid in appetite control and increase feelings of fullness or satiety. This allows patients to feel fuller for longer leading to a decrease in caloric intake. 
3. Semaglutide slows the gastric emptying in the stomach which also leaves patients feeling fuller for longer. 

• This medication is injected subcutaneously (under the skin into fatty tissue) every week. 
• Dosing of semaglutide is titrated every week based on weight loss and symptom management. In the clinic this dosage change is determine by Dr. Mars and her clinical nursing team based on set protocols. 

There are potential side effects with any medication we take, but we do our best to help minimize unwanted symptoms along the way. While these will be discussed in much more detail during your initial consult please know potential side effects include:
